Common Questions
Many families ask us these kinds of questions when they’re first considering Adult Day Services. We hope this conversation gives you a clear picture of what we offer and how we care for our members.
Family Member: What is Adult Day Services?
Extended Family: Think of it as a safe and supportive “in-between” option. It’s perfect for adults who need more help than living alone allows, but don’t yet need assisted living or a nursing home. At Extended Family, we provide a homelike setting with activities, meals, and medication reminders—plus, it’s one of the most affordable long-term care choices out there.
Family Member: Do you think this could work for my loved one?
Extended Family: Most likely, yes. Our program is designed for adults 18 and older with ongoing physical or memory challenges who can’t safely stay home alone during the day. Families often choose us for loved ones living with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s in the early to moderate stages, survivors of strokes or accidents, adults with developmental disabilities, or anyone who simply needs social interaction and daily support.
Family Member: How do I know they’ll be cared for?
Extended Family: That’s our top priority. Our team is caring and attentive, and every new member gets a personal care assessment. From there, we build a plan tailored to them—filled with activities to support independence, health, and happiness in a warm, club-like atmosphere.
Family Member: What kinds of activities do you offer?
Extended Family: A little bit of everything! We focus on keeping minds sharp and spirits high with:
Therapeutic activities to encourage movement and engagement
Creative outlets like painting, ceramics, wood crafts, and cooking
Fun and social time with games, plus outings to restaurants, theaters, museums, and parks
Brain-boosting activities like word puzzles, memory exercises, and classes on art, history, and music
It’s all about staying active, connected, and feeling good.
Family Member: Are meals provided?
Extended Family: Yes! We serve breakfast, a home-style lunch, and snacks every day. We also make sure to accommodate special diets—whether that’s diabetic, vegetarian, low-sodium, or low-cholesterol. Good food and good nutrition are part of what helps our members thrive.
Family Member: What if my loved one needs rehab services?
Extended Family: We’ve got that covered too. We partner with physical, speech, and occupational therapists who can provide rehab right here at the center. These services can help improve mobility, balance, strength, and memory—and if your loved one qualifies, Medicare may cover it.
Family Member: Are you open on weekends and what time do you open?
Extended Family: No, we are closed on the weekends. However, we are open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5pm.
Family Member: How much does it cost?
Extended Family: Compared to other long-term care options, Adult Day Services is very affordable—about half the cost of assisted living and less than a quarter of nursing home care. Our services can be paid through Medicaid Waiver, Veterans Administration, Pathways Program, CHOICE, and an affordable private pay scale.
